I am feeling nostalgic. When Burnt Out Lodge was just a dream of mine (I was much younger!). The Black Butte Fire came through the property on September 9, 1994. I thought it was over before it had a chance. The people that we had been working with told us we had eighteen months to use the burnt trees. The Lodge was built using those burnt trees. We then started a bed and breakfast. I loved it we met many people from all over the world.
What a learning experience! All went well until May 2011 when we had the worst flood in years. Although the building was a good distance from the creek, we had water from one bank to the other of the valley. The damage was awful, the entire valley looked like a rock covered mess. The flood took out our septic tank, washed under Room 4 and took the pond out. The entire summer we had Stenberg Construction company remaking the valley and pond. There was no business conducted that year. When we reopened in 2012 we opened as a Vacation Rental (Age was forcing us to cut down on the labor). The grounds are starting to look like nothing ever happened and the new pond is doing well. Hope those who are not aware of our history enjoy my trip down memory lane.
