Burnt Out Lodge History

Our beautiful, log lodge is located on a working ranch that has been in the Drange family since 1934. This working cattle ranch covers more than three thousand acres and is the perfect backdrop for your next vacation or special event.

The Black Butte Fire came through our ranch on September 9, 1994. Looking at the devastation we became determined to turn the situation around. How could we turn the fire into something positive? We started looking at all the burnt trees. They were charred, but still standing.  Burnt, but still useful. Then we had the idea. Burnt Out Lodge was built using those burnt trees. It has turned into something very positive! The Lodge has been the site for weddings, family reunions and quilting retreats. Its walls have seen a lot of love and laughter. As the owners of the lodge we’ve met many wonderful people from all over the world.

Burnt Out Lodge is located in a secluded area away from the hurry-scurry of most of our lives. This is the perfect place for all kinds of reunions, quilting and scrap-booking groups. The venue is perfect for conferences, workshops or weddings. Our six guest rooms with private entrances and private baths will sleep sixteen people with each in their own bed. With two people in each queen-sized bed we can accommodate twenty four people. The kitchen is equipped with a commercial stove and dishwasher, ice machine and a walk-in cooler and freezer.
